I remember buying issue #1 way back when it came out only because the Jeehyung Lee variant was so awesome. But when I read it, it was actually pretty good. Anyway, due to the Covid shut down 2 years ago it got shelved. But now it’s back. All 5 issues in this Giant-Size Gwen Stacy #1. The whole story ended up being a nice little crime story. Gwen’s dad gets set up and gets threats made to him about hurting Gwen, forcing him to retire. However, Gwen and the two cops, DeWolfe and Watanabe weren’t giving up that easy. Let the investigations begin. I had a blast following the case as see some serious players involved, like King Pin, Green Goblin and the Crime Master. Great art by Nauck and I’m glad Marvel ended up collecting this series and putting it out. Good stuff.

A fantastic miniseries that was originally just two issues out of a five issue miniseries before it was cancelled but was completed in this TPB. I absolutely love the interpretation of Gwen Stacy in high school with Harry Osbourne. It incorporates Lee-Dikto classic characters as Frederick Foswell AKA the Big Man, Crime Master, and the Green Goblin. We also have Jean Dewolfe and Yuri Watanabe as Lieutenants to Captain Gwen Stacy. It has a strong Nancy Drew-esque quality and absolutely fantastic.

A really solid 4 stars. Felt like an Archie comic set in the marvel universe. Really liked it :)

Beautiful art by Todd Nauck telling the story of a 'pre-Spidey' Gwen doing a bit of the Nancy Drew / Hardy Boys teen age detective story. I enjoy Cristos Gage as an author the most when he is working in this part of the Spiderverse and he did not disappoint. Not sure why Marvel decided to do the Giant Size format as it could have been a 4-5 issue miniseries, but I am happy I got to read this story in one sitting. Check it out!

This was fun detective story with some nice apperances and performances from characters in the Spidey universe. I really enjoy these slower more grounded stories, epsecially in the Spider Man series. It was a bit unrealistic that a high school student could even get mettings with some of the characters but it was still fun nonetheless. The story was solid and the art was ok. Not a bad way to spend and hour as all five issues are collected here.

Christos Gage pens a very classic Marvel tale that's comicbooky in the way a lot of MARVEL books aren't anymore.
This very oversized issue, essentially a volume, gives Gwen Stacy a chance to shine and evolve while keeping her firmly in the mythos. Fun volume.

A fun, Nancy Drew-esque take on Gwen Stacy before meeting Peter Parker. First, it's worth noting that it's great that this story was finally released in it's entirety, having been previously delayed indefinitely because of the pandemic after the first two issues. I'm glad it all made it to print! The story's fairly light, taking place early in a lot of these characters' lives, but there are compelling stakes and consequences. The story consists of a mystery brewing among various criminals that Gwen both finds herself in the middle of and endeavors to unravel. A fun read through and through!
It's also fun to revisit an earlier version of the Marvel Universe, reminiscent of Stan Lee and John Romita Sr.'s Amazing Spider-Man run.

Not the Gwen story I would've chosen to write, and one that's a little too obsessed with constantly reminding us Gwen is a spiderman supporting cast member rather than her own main character despite this being her goddamn story. But it's a solid story nonetheless. 3.5 stars rounded up.
