  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Tallies three hits, including homer

    Rotowire

Vientos went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

The 24-year-old third baseman opened the game's scoring by scorching a 409-foot solo homer off Michael Lorenzen in the second inning. Vientos has been hot since securing the hot corner in Queens when Brett Baty was demoted May 31, hitting .333 (19-for-57) with three homers, 11 runs scored and 11 RBI. Overall, Vientos is slashing .317/.375/.554 in 112 total plate appearances this season.

  • Mets' Edwin Diaz: Locks down seventh save

    Rotowire

Diaz earned the save in Tuesday's 7-6 victory over San Francisco. He pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and no walks with no strikeouts.

After an RBI double by Pete Alonso provided New York with the lead in the top of the ninth inning, Diaz entered in the bottom of the frame to gather his second save since returning from the injured list June 13. The flamethrowing closer yielded a leadoff single to Jonah Heim before inducing a groundball double play and flyout for his seventh save this season. After struggling with an 8.68 ERA over 9.1 innings in May, Diaz looks healthy again and has regained control of the Mets closer role.

  • Mets' Luis Severino: Shelled for six runs

    Rotowire

Severino did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-6 win over Texas, allowing six runs on eight hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out one.

After yielding just one run through four innings, the New York right-hander unraveled in the fifth, allowing five runs on five hits, including two homers. Severino also produced only five whiffs on his way to collecting a season-worst one strikeout. The 30-year-old's velocity on his entire arsenal was down in this outing, anchored by his sinker averaging 94.5 mph, down 1.2 mph. Severino is currently scheduled to make his next start against his former team -- the Yankees -- at home next week.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Three hits in big win

    Rotowire

Vientos went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Monday's win over the Rangers.

The 24-year-old snapped out of an offensive swoon that had seen him bat .188 (6-for-32) over the prior 10 games. Vientos has a hammerlock on the starting job at third base for the Mets -- since returning to the majors in mid-May, he's slashing .292/.360/.494 with four homers and 14 RBI in 26 contests. His defense has even gotten more reliable, as he's committed only one error during that stretch and has a minus-2.9 UZR/150 through 206.1 innings at the hot corner, a huge improvement on the minus-13.4 UZR/150 he managed in 153 innings last year.

  • Mets' Pete Alonso: On base four times in rout

    Rotowire

Alonso went 3-for-5 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the Rangers.

The first baseman kept the line moving for the Mets in a 14-2 rout. Alonso still isn't supplying his usual power, but he's picked up the pace a bit in June, slashing .259/.348/.483 through 14 games with four doubles, three homers, nine runs and 12 RBI.

  • Mets' DJ Stewart: Ends homer drought Monday

    Rotowire

Stewart went 2-for-6 with a three-run home run and a second run scored in Monday's win over the Rangers.

Getting the start in right field and batting fifth, Stewart ripped a first-pitch fastball from Jon Gray down the right-field line in the second inning, giving the Mets an early 7-0 lead in an eventual 14-2 rout. The blast ended a 32-game homer drought for Stewart, with his last long ball coming April 30 -- in between, he slashed a woeful .145/.299/.182 with just two RBI in 67 plate appearances. The 30-year-old has seen his playing time largely evaporate with J.D. Martinez handling everyday duties at DH, and even if he heats up at the plate, Stewart's role isn't likely to change much.

    Rotowire

Alvarez went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI in Monday's win against Texas.

Alvarez singled and scored in the fifth inning before delivering RBI base hits in the sixth and eighth frames. He entered Monday's game in a 2-for-14 (.143) slump since returning from the injured list. Alvarez produced his first multi-hit game since April 11. He's now slashing .243/.282/.338 with 12 RBI through 23 games this season.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Homers, drives in four

    Rotowire

Nimmo went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in Monday's win over the Rangers.

Nimmo knocked RBI singles in the second and fifth innings but most of his damage came in the fourth inning when he ripped a two-run homer. It was his second straight three-hit game and fourth consecutive appearance with multiple hits. That hot streak has bumped Nimmo's OPS from .708 to .756. He has eight home runs and 39 RBI through 67 games this season.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Knocks four hits

    Rotowire

Lindor went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored in Monday's win over Texas.

Lindor wasted no time making an impact Monday; through two innings, he was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. He singled and scored again in the fourth inning before capping off his big day with an RBI double in the fifth. It was Lindor's third four-hit game of the year and first since May 30. Over his last 24 games, he's gone 33-for-98 (.337) with 15 extra-base hits and 18 runs scored. His season slash line is up to .242/.313/.432 through 319 plate appearances.

  • Mets' David Peterson: Cruises to easy win

    Rotowire

Peterson allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over six innings Monday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rangers.

Peterson delivered a quality start as the Mets piled on 14 runs of support in the victory. He's earned three straight wins and has produced a quality start in two of his first four outings this season. He dropped his ERA to 3.97 with a 12:8 K:BB through 22.2 innings. Peterson also generated a season-high 11 whiffs, including six with his fastball. His next start is expected to be on the road against the Cubs.

  • Mets' Harrison Bader: Absent from lineup

    Rotowire

Bader is out of the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Rangers.

Bader had manned center field for the last two contests and five of the previous six games but will begin Monday's series opener on the bench. Tyrone Taylor will fill in for Bader in center field.

  • Mets' Starling Marte: Not in Monday's lineup

    Rotowire

Marte is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

Rangers starter Jon Gray has held Marte in check during their matchups, with Marte producing a 611 OPS in 20 plate appearances. Marte will begin Monday's game on the bench as DJ Stewart spells him in right field.

  • Mets' J.D. Martinez: On base four times Sunday

    Rotowire

Martinez went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Padres.

The veteran DH was a key part of the Mets' 11-run eruption Sunday, and Martinez enjoyed a huge weekend overall against San Diego -- he went 6-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, two homers, six RBI and nine runs, and he reached base in 10 straight plate appearances during the three-game set. The 36-year-old is slashing .293/.363/.518 on the season with eight home runs and 27 RBI in 44 contests.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Pops third homer

    Rotowire

Torrens went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Facing the team he made his big-league debut with back in 2017, Torrens took Jeremiah Estrada deep in the eighth inning. The 28-year-old catcher has started his Mets tenure off with a bang, batting .318 (7-for-22) in his first eight games for the club with three homers, but he remains firmly in the backup role behind Francisco Alvarez.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Three hits against Padres

    Rotowire

Nimmo went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over San Diego.

Batting second once again, Nimmo reeled off his third straight multi-hit performance. The 31-year-old has heated up in June, slashing .300/.352/.400 through 54 plate appearances, but his homer drought sits at 23 games. Nimmo's gone yard just seven times so far in 2024, a disappointing showing after he slugged a career-high 24 homers last season.
