Development of cellulase hyperproducing mutants derived from the fungus Trichoderma reesei

Background and Aim: Filamentous fungi Trichoderma reesei are considered to be one of the most efficient producers of cellulase capable of degrading cellulose which is the most abundant biopolymer on the Earth. In recent years, cellulases have become industrially important enzymes that are used in a variety of biotechnical applications such as in food, animal feed, pulp and paper, textile and detergent industries and especially in bioethanol technology. In order to make those applications economically feasible, the yields of the cellulolytic enzymes needs to be increased. So investigation on improvement of cellulase productivity is a remarkable object for research. Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the antibiotic resistance patterns and prevalence of carbapenemase genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates in different clinical samples from Tabriz city, northwestern Iran. Results This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Microbiology, Islamic Azad University, Ahar Branch, Iran, in 2020. K. pneumoniae isolates were collected from different clinical samples, including blood, wounds, sputum, and urine. The isolates were identified using a series of standard bacteriological tests. Antibiotic resistance was determined by the disc diffusion method. The presence of blaVIM, blaNDM, blaKPC, blaOXA, and blaIMP genes were screened by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). A total of 100 non-duplicated K. pneumoniae isolates were collected from 57 urine samples, 27 blood samples, 13 wound samples, and 3 sputum samples. Prevalence of SHV gene and antibiotic resistance of extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli strains isolated from abattoir wastewater in Mazandaran Province, north of Iran

Abattoir wastewater is a major source of pollution burden and life-treating human pathogenic bacteria. The aim of this study was to determine the extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing (ESBL) producing E. coli isolates and their antibiotic resistances in wastewater samples. In this experimental study, abattoir wastewater samples were collected and identified from 32 different regions in Mazandaran Province, North Iran. Disk agar diffusion test was applied for testing antibiotic resistance. Phenotypic detection of ESBL-producing isolates was performed using combined disk method. The presence of blaSHV gene was investigated using PCR method. The prevalence of E. coli in wastewater samples was 10%. The ESBL test analysis was positive for 14 (93.33%) isolates. ORIGINAL REPORT Neonatal Bacteriemia Isolates and Their Antibiotic Resistance Pattern in Neonatal Insensitive Care Unit (NICU) at Beasat Hospital, Sanandaj, Iran

Bacteremia continues to result in significant morbidity and mortality, particularly among neonates. There is scarce data on neonatal bacteremia in among Iranian neonates. In this study, we determined neonatal bacteremia isolates and their antibiotic resistance pattern in neonatal insensitive care unit at Beasat hospital, Sanandaj, Iran. During one year, all neonates admitted to the NICU were evaluated. Staphylococcal isolates were subjected to determine the prevalence of MRS and mecA gene. A total of 355 blood cultures from suspected cases of sepsis were processed, of which 27 (7.6%) were positive for bacterial growth. Of the 27 isolates, 20 (74%) were Staphylococcus spp as the leading cause of bacteremia. The incidence of Gram negative bacteria was 04 (14.8%). The isolated bacteria were resistant to commonly used antibiotics. Maximum resistance among Staphylococcus spp was against Penicillin, and Ampicillin.
