The data is in, and before we launch into 2024, it’s essential to look back at last year. The best-selling cars of 2023 include a lot of familiar models, some new ones, and a bit of juggling of the order compared to years past. Most models, especially those near the top of the list, show year-over-year solid sales increases, indicating a more robust market in 2023 compared to 2022. From EVs to full-size trucks and almost everything in between, there’s a car for you on this list. After all, it’s a list of vehicles that people like you bought more than others.
Here are the 25 best-selling cars of 2023.
1. Ford F-Series
Total Units Sold: 750,789
Ford’s herd of F-Series trucks — which includes the F-150, F-250, F-350, and the even larger models — is perennially at the top of the list, in part because it’s an aggregation of several models, but also because it’s consistently popular with commercial fleets as well as retail buyers. It’s popular because it’s so good it earned the Kelley Blue Book Full-Size Truck Best Buy of 2024 award. See Ford F-Series models for sale near you
2. Chevrolet Silverado
Total Units Sold: 543,319
Coming in second behind the F-Series is Chevrolet’s eminently capable Silverado lineup, which aggregates the Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 but doesn’t include the nearly identical GMC Sierra line. If you combined those two, GM would have the best-selling trucks by about 100,000 units. See Chevrolet Silverado models for sale near you
3. Ram Pickup
Total Units Sold: 444,926
The third of the Big Three pickup lines, the Ram Pickup line, combines the sales figures for its Ram 1500, 2500, and 350 and its heavier-duty models. While it’s not the most popular, with nearly 450,000 units sold, the Ram line is sought after in the pickup world. See Ram 1500 models for sale near you
4. Toyota RAV4
Total Units Sold: 434,943
As the top-ranking non-pickup model, the Toyota RAV4 is the most popular SUV in the U.S. Sales figures include both the standard and hybrid variants of the RAV4, which include the RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid. All RAV4 variants get modern tech, a roomy cabin, and many standard safety features. See Toyota RAV4 models for sale near you
5. Tesla Model Y
Total Units Sold: 385,900
Next up is the top-selling EV in America for 2023, the Tesla Model Y. The Model Y’s maximum range of 330 miles makes it a practical choice for many Americans, as does Tesla’s Supercharger network. The return of a federal tax credit of up to $7,500 also helped boost sales of the Model Y in 2023, thanks to new rules put in place in April. See Tesla Model Y models for sale near you
6. Honda CR-V
Total Units Sold: 361,457
The Honda CR-V is another much-loved crossover for Americans. It appears near the top of the best-seller list annually, frequently alongside its primary rival, the Toyota RAV4. The CR-V’s excellent all-around ability, equipment, and value have made it a strong seller and KBB’s Compact SUV Best Buy of 2024. See Honda CR-V models for sale near you
7. GMC Sierra
Total Units Sold: 295,737
The GMC Sierra line of pickups mirrors Chevrolet’s lineup in terms of capability but with distinct stylistic sensibilities and a different array of trims and option combinations. Regardless of which brand you prefer, you’ll get a pickup that’s ready to work or play as hard as you do. See GMC Sierra models for sale near you
8. Toyota Camry
Total Units Sold: 290,649
Once upon a time, the Toyota Camry was almost as likely to be at the top of this list as the Ford F-Series, but the market has turned away from sedans. Despite that, the Camry ranks in the top 10, claiming the top spot among all sedans. Why? Because it’s that good and has been for a long time. See Toyota Camry models for sale near you
9. Nissan Rogue
Total Units Sold: 271,458
The Nissan Rogue is often overlooked in the conversation focusing on rival compact SUVs like the RAV4, CR-V, and Mazda CX-5. Still, it’s worth a second look for its substantial value, undercutting its rivals on price while offering competitive features and equipment. If you’re looking for excellent safety tech, solid fuel economy, and a comfortable cabin, look at the Rogue. See Nissan Rogue models for sale near you
10. Jeep Grand Cherokee
Total Units Sold: 244,594
An upscale look that comes standard even with the base model gives the Jeep Grand Cherokee plenty of curb appeal, and the fondness only grows if you equip it for off-road use and then use it. 23. Mazda CX-5
Total Units Sold: Sold: 153,808
The Mazda CX-5’s combination of sharp style, upscale feel, and sporty driving dynamics sounds like what you’d get from a luxury brand, but the CX-5 is priced like a typical mainstream model, making it a notable value. The CX-5 also comes standard with AWD. See Mazda CX-5 models for sale near you
24. Subaru Forester
Total Units Sold: 152,566
